Tots: Sink or Float?

Little ones will discover the museum’s incredible 3,400 year old log boat, made from a single tree trunk! Have fun creating your own boats and experimenting with objects to see if they float or sink.

Suitable for children 6 months to 3 years old, with their grown-ups.

Materials List

For this session, you will need:

  • An object that can hold water (e.g. a washing up bowl, Tupperware, sink)

  • An object to pour water (e.g. cup or jug)

  • Selection of materials to test (e.g. tennis ball, wood, leaves, sponges etc.)

  • Sink or float activity sheet or pen and paper to draw your own

  • A smaller vessel to be a boat (e.g. Tupperware)
