Weekend Make: Junk Modelling

In our weekend make for children, we explore different arts and crafts processes inspired by our collections with the support of a short video and activity sheet. See what you can make.

This make is based on one of Derby Museums’ biggest collection items - the Bronze Age log boat - which you can see in our Archaeology gallery. The log boat is made from a hollowed out oak tree, but you can junk model your own boat using items from around the house. Your boat might look like the one in the museum or you could make it look like a rowing boat, a Viking Long Boat or even the Titanic!

Suitable for children aged 5+ with their grown-ups.

This online session is free of charge, however, if you are able to consider making a donation, this will help us to continue to conserve our heritage and re-open our doors for future generations. All of your generous donations will be matched pound for pound by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Donate here.
