Drawing for Relaxation with Stevie Davies

Inspired by our Nature Gallery and the idea ‘Notice Nature, Feel Joy’, you will need about 20-30 minutes to do a well observed drawing of a natural form. We have chosen wood because it has great texture, so you can use this as your inspiration or find something in nature with an interesting surface pattern to inspire you. This activity is for anyone, you don’t have to consider yourself someone who is a naturally good drawer.

View Stevie’s short video and listen to her relaxing audio to guide you, or download the activity and examples below to get started. We would love to see what you have done - you can email your drawings to Royah@derbymuseums.org with the title Drawing for Relaxation.

Drawing for calm

Spend some time noticing where the lines of the texture cross your grid and map out your drawing.

Get lost in the lines and relax.
