Global Derbyshire in Ten Objects is a series of ten mini podcasts produced by the University of Derby for Being Human Festival. These podcasts will discuss how objects in our local collections can be the start of larger stories and prompt honest conversations about our past, present and future, touching on themes of exploration, exploitation and Empire.

In this episode, jewellery designer and artistic practitioner Anisha Parmar talks to Derby Museums’ Co-production Curator Rachel Atherton about some of the jewellery and personal adornments in Derby Museums’ collections. Anisha discusses how her family’s journey and handed-down jewellery pieces inspire her to create her own jewellery, which now features alongside museum collections as part of the ‘Adorn’ display in the World Collection Gallery at Derby Museum and Art Gallery.

You can listen to the conversation here or download to your device (21mb).

See more of Anisha’s jewellery here.

You are invited to attend our ‘Labelling the World’ workshop on 16 November to co-produce labels for the latest addition to the World Collection Gallery, a painting by Punjab-born artist Gurbux Singh Theathi depicting Sikh Guru Amar Das’ Free Kitchen. It was painted in the 1980s and given to the museum by Derby’s Guru Arjan Dev Gurdwara in 2001. Click here to reserve your place.
