Alvaston Star Party - John Flamsteed

We are taking part in the Virtual Star Party organised by the Alvaston Park Friends.

The Star Party runs from Friday 23 – Sunday 31 January. Follow the Alvaston Park Friends on Facebook for more info.

For thousands of years people have looked for patterns in the stars and used these patterns to work out where they are and the time of the year. John Flamsteed was a famous astronomer from Derbyshire who lived nearly 375 years ago. He charted the stars and created a map called the 'Atlas Coelestis'. In this pre-recorded video, Spencer Bailey, Collections Manager at Derby Museums, shares more about Flamsteed’s life and work.

This talk is free of charge, however, if you are able to consider making a donation, this will help us to continue to conserve our heritage and re-open our doors for future generations. All of your generous donations will be matched pound for pound by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Donate here.
